Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2026 has once again been awarded the prestigious World Athletics Road Race Label – a recognition of the event’s high organizational standards and international significance. The distinction, granted by World Athletics, confirms the marathon’s place among the world’s leading road races.

“This recognition is the result of the consistent efforts of our entire team and partners. For us, it is also a responsibility – to keep improving every year and to deliver a world-class experience for both elite athletes and amateur runners,” said Anatoli Iliev, Chief Organizer from the “Sport for All” Association.

“The Sofia Marathon has the ambition to become one of the most attractive marathons not only in the Balkans, but across Europe. This label is a recognition of the work behind the event and contributes to strengthening its quality. For the mass participant, it is a guarantee of professional organization – from a precisely measured course to a high level of safety and medical support along the route,” added Militsa Mircheva, Sports Director of the marathon.

This year, Wizz Air Sofia Marathon will take place on October 10 and 11, 2026. On the first day – October 10 – the shorter distances will be held: the 10K Garmin Run and the 5K FIB Mass Run, which traditionally attract thousands of participants from Bulgaria and abroad. On October 11, runners will take part in the longer races: the marathon (42.195 km), the half marathon (21 km) – 21K Address Run, as well as the new relay discipline (2 × 21 km).

With each passing year, the event continues to grow in international popularity, further establishing itself as a leading sporting event in the region, combining mass participation, professional organization, and an attractive city course through the heart of Sofia.
