Sofia is home to active running clubs that turn an individual sport into a shared experience. Group training provides rhythm, knowledge, and support – especially in the months leading up to the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon. Whether you run for fun or are chasing a new personal best, the club environment helps you build habits,…
Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025 will bring together thousands of runners from Bulgaria and abroad on October 11 and 12. For some, it will be their first mass race; for others, a new attempt at the classic 42 km distance. But one thing is certain – community plays a key role in marathon preparation. And Sofia has plenty to offer.
Why train with a club?
Running in a group is not only motivating but also helps build consistent habits, proper technique, and better load management. Group runs bring a sense of belonging, and tips from experienced runners can make a big difference in preparing well. Before Wizz Air Sofia Marathon, it’s a great idea to join at least one training run with a club – for pacing, motivation, and shared experience.
ASICS FrontRunner – a global community with local spirit
ASICS is an official partner of Wizz Air Sofia Marathon, and its FrontRunner running community has active members in Bulgaria. These are ambitious but approachable runners – from hobby joggers to ultramarathoners – who lead open workouts, organize events, and inspire with their example. They can often be seen on popular running routes in Sofia – Borisova Garden, South Park, and Vitosha. More about them at: asics.com/bg-bg/frontrunner
Garmin team – tech and race spirit
Another key marathon partner, Garmin, will also have its own team at the race. If you use Garmin devices, you can join Garmin Connect Challenges or train using programs based on your individual metrics. During the marathon, team Garmin runners will be easily recognizable and will definitely add to the event’s energy.
Which clubs can you join?
5kmrun – Every Saturday in South Park there’s a free 5 km run open to everyone. A great opportunity for tempo running and socializing.
Runners Sofia – adidas Runners Sofia is part of the global adidas Runners community and has been active in Bulgaria since 2018.
Begach Running Club – One of the oldest and most active running clubs in the capital. They organize regular workouts and races, with open membership for all levels.
How to join?
Most clubs have open Facebook groups or pages where they post their training schedules. No membership or special experience is required – just motivation and the desire to run. If you’re new to running, it’s a good idea to join a shorter session and ask questions – most runners are happy to share tips.
Sofia is running – and waiting for you
The marathon doesn’t begin on race day – it starts with every workout, every early morning, and every encounter with people on the same path. If you want your preparation to be more structured, fun, and inspiring, find your running community in Sofia. And when you line up at the start of the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon, you won’t be alone.
