Support from loved ones during the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025 is invaluable – with a bit of planning, good spirits, and timely applause, you can make race day an unforgettable experience for both the runner and yourself.
Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025 will take place on October 11 and 12, bringing thousands of participants to the starting line. For many, this is a long-prepared challenge, and support from loved ones plays a key role in motivation and emotional strength. With just a bit of planning, companions can help not only with applause but also with practical actions before, during, and after the run.
Before the Start: Organization and Symbolic Support
It’s helpful to know when and where the race kit is collected – this happens during the Marathon Expo. The kit includes a bib number with an electronic chip, a race T-shirt (for 10, 21, and 42 km), and a bag. In some cases, the runner may need help collecting it.
A popular tradition is creating posters with motivational or humorous messages. This year, Wizz Air Sofia Marathon is once again hosting a contest for the funniest poster – a great opportunity for friends and family to be creative and show their sense of humor.
Where and How to Support Along the Route
The start/finish zone at Battenberg Square is open to the public and offers the most powerful emotions at the beginning and end of the race. There are also key points along the course where supporters can wait to cheer on their loved ones – for example, near St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Lions’ Bridge, the Russian Monument, in front of the Billa store in Lyulin 8 (the turnaround), in the Lyulin tunnel, in front of Arena Cinema, on Chavdar Bridge, and other locations.
Stages with live music and artistic performances will be set up along the course, creating a festive atmosphere for both runners and spectators. These are great spots to wait – full of energy and entertainment.
ASICS Cheer zone
The final meters before the finish line are always the most emotional for runners — the moment when exhaustion and effort turn into pure euphoria. Right there, in front of the Russian Church, will be the ASICS Cheer Zone – a special place where participants will be cheered on with energy and smiles just before crossing the finish line. Representatives from ASICS, along with everyone who wants to encourage the runners in their final strides of the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon, will be waiting there.
Tracking Time and Meeting Points
If the runner uses a sports watch or mobile GPS app, their run can often be tracked in real time, making it easier to coordinate support along the route.
After finishing, runners will be guided to the medal and refreshment zone with fruit, water, and hot drinks. This is the ideal moment for meeting family and friends, taking photos, and sharing the emotions. Every finisher receives a medal – a powerful symbol of achievement and an important feature in every photo.
It’s recommended that companions bring an extra layer of clothing, food, or a drink to hand over at the finish – especially if the weather is cool.
What’s Not Allowed
Accompanying runners along the course with a bicycle, e-scooter, or any other vehicle is prohibited and may lead to disqualification. Running with dogs or other pets is also not allowed, due to safety risks such as tripping, leash tangling, or bites.
Pacers are allowed, provided they do not interfere with other participants. These are typically experienced runners with designated gear and pre-approved pace targets.
Having a loved one present during a marathon is more than a gesture – it’s a form of support that stays in memory. A smile, applause, warm clothing, or a photo with a medal can make the marathon experience even more fulfilling.
