Where will I receive confirmation of my registration?

You will receive confirmation of your registration at the email address you provided immediately after paying the registration fee. Upon confirmation of your registration, you will also receive your individual start number. You will be able to pick up your physical start number with chip before the race when you receive your starter pack.
Important! Bring your confirmation with you when you pick up your start number.

Can I make changes to my personal data from the registration?

After registration, any changes to personal information can be made until October 1, 2026, by email only at [email protected]. After this date, the service will be subject to a fee and changes can only be made in person at the Race Office. Prices will be announced at a later date.

Is it possible to change the distance or participant name for a registration that has already been confirmed?

Things happen – plans can change. A change of distance can be requested up to 30 days before the race – September 9, 2026 (subject to availability of race bibs) by email at [email protected]

Withdrawal from participation in the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2026

If, for any reason, you are unable to participate, you must notify us of your cancellation at [email protected] no later than 45 days before the start of the marathon – August 26, 2026.

Your registration fee will be refunded by bank transfer, minus any administrative fees associated with the transaction. After this deadline, registration fees cannot be refunded.

When and where can I get my starter pack?

The starter pack can only be collected on October 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, 2026, at the Race Office during the Marathon Expo. It includes your race number. The Expo is located in the City Garden, between Alexander Batenberg Square and the Ivan Vazov National Theater. Important!

Please bring your confirmation when picking up your race number.

Can I receive my starter pack on the day of the race?

It is not possible to receive your starter pack on the day of the race. Race numbers will be distributed on October 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, 2026, at the Race Office during the Marathon Expo.

The only exception will be for participants in the 5 km and 10 km races, who will be able to pick up their starter packs until October 9 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Can I get another runner’s starter pack?

Yes. To receive another runner’s starter pack, you will need to bring his/her registration confirmation and a copy of the ID card of the participant whose pack you wish to receive.

Where is the start of the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon?

The start for all distances is at Alexander Batenberg Square in front of the National Art Gallery in the direction of Knyaginya Maria Luiza Boulevard. Please be at the start area on time to avoid stress, tension, or having to catch up with other participants.

Is the route certified?

Yes, the track is certified by WA – World Athletics.

What is the race route?

The route is flat, except for small gentle climbs on bridges in both directions. It runs on asphalt and a small section on cobblestones. See detailed maps of the routes here.

What is the elevation gain for the 21/42 km route?

The elevation gain for the 21 km route is 25 m, and for the 42 km route it is about 50 m.

Are pets allowed on the route?

It is not permitted to cross the track with animals.

What should I do if my result is missing or incorrect?

Are there any support points provided?

Support stations will be located every 5 km along the route, as well as at the start/finish line.

After completing the distance, you will be directed to the final refreshment point, where you can refresh yourself with food, fruit, hot drinks, and water.

Will there be toilets?

Portable toilets will be provided on site and will be located in the start/finish area and at all aid stations.

Can I be accompanied along the route by some kind of vehicle?

You are not allowed to have an escort on a bicycle or other vehicle along the route. If you are accompanied by someone, you will be disqualified.

Are payers allowed?

Yes, but only if they do not disturb the other participants.

Is medical assistance provided?

Medical assistance will be provided at several special stations located at various points along the route.
If you need assistance during the race, please proceed to the nearest medical station.
In the finish area, medical teams will provide you with qualified assistance if necessary.

Please only start if you are in good health and able to withstand such physical exertion.

Is it permissible to listen to music while running?

We recommend that you do not use an iPhone, iPod, MP3 player, or other devices with headphones to listen to music while running. Their use is not prohibited, but restricting them is related to your safety.

Will I receive a medal after the final?

Yes, each participant will receive a medal after the end of the competition, in a specially designated area determined by the organizer.

Where does the route pass through?

The route passes through major thoroughfares and the historic center of Sofia, along most of the city’s landmarks. A detailed map of the route can be found HERE.

How many laps of the track is the entire marathon?

The entire marathon is 42 km, which is two full laps of the course.

All our volunteers become part of a community of like-minded people who promote mass sports in the capital.

What is required of me as a volunteer?

Anyone who wishes to do so can volunteer during the marathon. Specific tasks will be assigned individually in the days leading up to the event, based on the abilities and interests indicated in the registration form filled out on the website here.

Most often, volunteers assist with the organization and maintenance of support points along the route, as well as assist marathon participants.

What does the starter pack include?

For 5, 10, 21, and 42 km:

Will there be a separate parking area for marathon participants?

There will be no designated parking area around the start/finish line. All metro parking lots will be open and available for use.

We urge all marathon participants and spectators to use public transport to reach the marathon start/finish area. Please note that car traffic will be restricted in the marathon area.

Are there any restrictions on the number of participants in the marathon?

Places in the marathon are limited and the organizer reserves the right to close registration if the quota is filled.

Is there a cloakroom available for participants?

Yes, there will be a cloakroom at the start/finish line. The cloakroom for the 5, 10, 21, and 42 km distances will be located in the Race Office, where participants received their starter packs in the previous days.

We recommend that participants use the official Sofia Marathon bags received with their starter packs. Everyone will receive a sticker with a baggage number, which must be kept during the race and presented when collecting their belongings. We recommend that the sticker be affixed to the back of the race number. This year, the stickers will be handed out on site, rather than in the starter pack.

As an exception, participants may also leave small items such as keys. These will be placed by volunteers in a special envelope, for which a separate sticker will be issued. The areas for small items will be located at both ends of the cloakroom.

The organizers are not responsible for any valuables or jewelry left behind.

Is it possible to issue me an invoice for the registration?

Yes, it is possible. Please send an email to our email address ([email protected]) with the details of the company to which you would like the invoice to be issued, as well as registration information.

Can I consume food and drinks during the marathon?

Yes, but please note that according to WA rules, the consumption of refreshments is only permitted in the designated refreshment areas.

Can a starter pack be sent by courier to another city in advance?

No. The starter pack can only be collected in person in Sofia. You do not need to collect your starter pack in person.

Are there any restrictions on the thickness of the soles and the type of running shoes I can run in during the marathon?

According to World Athletics (WA) requirements (applies only to professional athletes), competitors must run in shoes that are on the list of approved models. Before the start, it is important to check whether your shoes comply with these rules. You can do this here: World Athletics Shoe Checker. Enter the Model Name or Model Number of your shoes in the search field to check whether they are included in the List of Approved Athletic Shoes. There are no restrictions on the type of running shoes for participants who are not professional athletes.

Is there a time limit for successfully completing the marathon?

Yes, there is a time limit, but it only applies to the marathon distance (42.195 km). The maximum time to finish is 5 hours and 30 minutes. This means that you must cross the finish line no later than 3:00 p.m. to be included in the official rankings. After that time, the course will be open to traffic and the organizers will not be responsible for the participants. As always, an ambulance will follow the last participant to the finish line.

What should I do if I have paid for my registration but it is not yet reflected in the website system?

If you made your payment on a non-business day or at the end of the last business day, there may be a temporary delay in it being reflected in the system. This delay is related to bank processing and is usually reflected on the next business day. If your payment is still not reflected after this period, please contact us via the contact form on the website.
